Pretty in Pink for Donna

I made a card for my good friend Donna who lives in Moncton NB.  When I saw her in Nov. of last year, I hadn`t seen her for several years.  She & I met when we were both 17 yrs. old.  We took the RNA (Registered Nursing Assistant) course together in Toronto.  At that time we were both living in a girls residence that was run by the Anglican church in Toronto.  We were together for 4 mos.  She dropped out as she didn`t really like nursing while I stayed in the course and graduated.  We kept in touch and had a few misadventures together that we laugh about now.  Our hubbies just shake their heads listening to us reminiscing about the ``good ole days.``  The Nursing Assistants are now called Registered Practical Nurses.  I spent 8 years working as a nurse and left nursing to raise my 2 children.  I never went back but do not regret it at all. I don`t think I could do the 12 hr. shifts the nurses of today do.  Here is the card I made for her:

I used the emboss resist technique for the sentiment.  I made all the ribbon flowers, added some bling and popped up the sentiment with foam dots. The card stock is from my stash and the designer paper is from Stampin Up.  I added some flat back pears to the center of the flowers.  The one in the lower left corner has a small while flower and is held onto the larger pink flower with a brad. I also added a small flat back pearl to the brad.  I am very pleased with this card and am hoping that Donna will like it as much as I do.

Ribbon flowers

While blurfing (blog surfing) the other day, I came across a blog that showed how to make ribbon flowers.  I love using ribbon and flowers as embellishments for my cards.  I had gone to Michaels a while ago and as they had a 30% off sale for ribbon, I bought a lot of ribbon embellishments.  When I watched the video on how to make ribbon flowers, it dawned on me that I could easily do this.  So, over the course of several evenings, I made a lot of ribbon flowers.  I used brads and crochet flowers from my stash to further enhance the ribbon flowers that I made.

Here are the ribbon flowers I made:

You will be seeing these embellishments on cards very soon!  This is where I found the tutorial.

Happy Birthday to me!

I received this card in the mail about a week ago.  It was sent to me by Cole's Little Helper from the Secret Pals group in the Anything Goes forum.  I love this bright and cheerful card!

My birthday is today but I celebrated it twice with hubby and also hubby's brother, sister, sister-in-law and brother-in-law.  Saturday hubby took me out for lunch in Elmira ON at the Crossroads.  They serve a delicious buffet.  Yesterday we had dinner at Swiss Chalet with hubby's sister, brother and their better halves.

Some cards I made recently

I took another cardmaking class at my LSS with Nicky and made these cards:

I really need to improve my sponging technique!

Love this card!

I really like the 2nd card we made and you can read about it on Nicky's blog.  We did some water colouring, sponging and added glitter although the glitter is hard to see.

Nicky also let me make another card from another class that she taught that I missed taking:

I have since added a sentiment and another butterfly to this card:

I used pearl drops to dot the j and on the pink butterfly.

I enjoy taking classes with Nicky as she always teaches a new technique.  She loves her glitter as much as I do!

Male BD Card

Here is a card I made for my friend's hubby whose BD it is today:

Here is the inside:

We went to visit Bert & his wife Jeanine recently and I gave him the card.  He liked it and his daughter thought it was very appropriate.

This is a Centre Step Card and I found the instructions on Splitcoast Stampers.

The star border punch is a Taylored expressions die.  I punched out some white circles which I embossed with my embossing folder in my Cuttlebug to make them look like golf balls.  I can't remember the name of the company that the golf stamp and sentiment are from.  I think the sentiment is perfect for a golfer be they male or female.  The stamp set also came with a golf bag stamp.
