Sierra's friend Nicholas who lives just up the street from them is moving to Australia with his parents and baby sister. I am sure that Sierra will miss her best friend. Sierra is giving Nicholas some colouring pages and markers to take on the plane with him for the long 24 hour flight to Australia. She is also giving him a picture of the 2 of them that my daughter took this past summer. DD got a 5 x 7 picture and put it in a clear plastic frame and then used some sticky letters to write friends under the picture. It turned out really cute and she also put a heart on the frame. I'm sure that Nicholas will love it. DD also gave me a 4 x 6 picture of Sierra and Nicholas & I have also put it in a clear plastic frame.

He is happy that he does not need the crutches or the wheelchair anymore but as his ankle is still a bit tender, he is using a walking cane just to give him a bit of stability. He is not sure if he can drive as yet. He wants to take the car out for a spin around the block sometime before the end of the week. His ankle is a lovely shade of purple with a few surgical scars. His skin is very dry and flaky. He takes the cast off for sleeping and showering. Yay! He can finally have a shower! Woo Hoo! He inflates it when he puts it on and deflates it to take it off.
Here is the information I got off the web on his cast:
FP Walker™ (foam pneumatic)
The FP Walker provides full-shell protection with pneumatic support. Each FP Walker has a low rocker sole for added comfort and ease of ambulation, and a wider foot base with plenty of room for dressings without sacrificing comfort. With the patient in mind, the valve placement has been relocated to improve compliance and ease of inflation. As with all Aircast Walking Braces, the FP Walker has a lightweight, durable, semi-rigid shell that supports the limb while providing protection. Housed within the shell are two adjustable aircells that provide compression and support the malleoli. These aircells can be individually inflated using the hand bulb (included) for a customized fit and optimal comfort and support. Changes in limb dimension can easily be accommodated throughout the healing process by adjusting aircell inflation to ensure stability and immobilization. Walking Brace Extension Staps are available to increase the strap length by 4" (10 cm).
Product Features and Benefits
Low rocker sole offers enhanced comfort and promotes natural ambulation
Wide foot base provides ample room for dressings
Improved ergonomic design for ease-of-use and increased compliance
Semi-rigid shell and adjustable aircells provide secure support and protection

that DH will be getting his walking cast. He is looking forward to not having to use the crutches or the wheelchair (or Opa's stroller as Sierra calls it) anymore. This walking cast will give him a lot more independence and he will finally be able to have a shower!! Who would have thunk that being able to shower would be so exciting! We are not sure if he will be able to drive, but he is looking forward to being able to do a lot more for himself.

DH will have a walking cast put on his ankle on Aug. 25th. He has already arranged to ride in the golf cart the following day with the guys he normally golfs with on Tuesday mornings. He has already paid his curling fees and is looking forward to being able to Curl again this winter. He has been going a little stir crazy sitting at home. At least for the last week or so, he has been able to watch the Olympics. I`ll be happy when he gets the walking cast - he will be able to do a lot more things for himself then. I won`t have to push him around in the wheelchair when we go out. We probably would have gone to more events this summer but it is hard to push him in a wheelchair where there are crowds of people. Even though a lot of places are wheelchair friendly, when there is a crowd of people, you have to be very careful you don`t run into someone`s heels.
